Generator Installation in Whitby

Whole-home standby generators with automatic transfer switches. Power stays on when the grid goes down.

Durham Region averages several extended outages per year from ice storms, wind events, and grid maintenance. A standby generator detects the outage within seconds and restores power to your home automatically, no manual startup, no extension cords, no waiting.

We install whole-home standby generators (Generac, Briggs, Kohler) with automatic transfer switches that handle the switchover seamlessly. The generator runs on natural gas or propane, so there is no fuel to store or refill. We size the unit based on your actual load requirements, not a generic recommendation.

What size generator do I need?

It depends on what you want to power during an outage. A 14-16kW unit covers most 200A homes (HVAC, fridge, lights, outlets). Larger homes with multiple HVAC zones or electric ranges may need 20-24kW. We calculate based on your actual loads.

How much does a standby generator cost installed?

It depends on generator size, gas connection complexity, and site conditions. We provide a complete flat-rate quote that covers the unit, transfer switch, pad, gas work, and permits, so the number you approve is the number you pay.

How loud is a standby generator?

Modern standby units typically run around the volume of a normal conversation when standing beside them, and noticeably quieter from your neighbour's side of the fence. Outside a brief weekly self-test, they only run when the power is actually out.

What maintenance does a generator need?

Standby generators run a brief self-test weekly (you will hear it for a few minutes). Annual maintenance includes an oil change, filter replacement, and battery check. Most manufacturers recommend professional service once per year.
