Homes built before the 1950s in Durham Region often still have knob-and-tube wiring in parts of the structure. It was safe when installed, but after 70+ years of thermal cycling, insulation contact, and amateur modifications, it becomes a fire and insurance liability.
We replace knob-and-tube with modern NMD90 cable, add grounding where none exists, and bring circuits up to current Ontario Electrical Safety Code. For renovations, we handle the full rough-in (new circuits, boxes, and home runs to the panel) before your drywall crew arrives.

Scheduled work
Rewiring is typically 2-5 days depending on home size. We coordinate with your contractor if it is part of a renovation.
Inspection and certificate
ESA inspection arranged. You receive the certificate of inspection for your records and your insurer.
How do I know if I have knob-and-tube wiring?
Check your basement or attic for white ceramic knobs nailed to joists and ceramic tubes passing through framing. If your home was built before 1950 and has never been fully rewired, there is a good chance some remains. A home inspection or our assessment can confirm.
Will my insurance drop me for knob-and-tube?
Many Ontario insurers will not renew policies on homes with active knob-and-tube wiring, or they charge significant surcharges. Replacing it typically resolves the issue. We provide the ESA certificate your insurer needs as proof of compliant work.
Do you need to open walls to rewire?
Some access is usually needed, but we minimize disruption. For accessible basements and attics, much of the work routes through those spaces. Where wall access is needed, we coordinate with your drywall crew for patching.
How long does a full rewire take?
A typical 3-bedroom home takes 3-5 working days for the electrical work. This does not include drywall patching or painting, which is usually handled by your general contractor or separately.
